FAQs

For wow results, VI Peels are often alternated with radio frequency micro-needling.  Micro-needling breaks pigment and the VI Peel lifts it.  It is recommended patients wait at least 14 days after the peel before undergoing a micro-needling treatment.  Fillers and Botox are also regularly combined with the VI Peel.  Lip fillers can be done on the same day as clearing the skin around the lips will make them look fuller.  Botox and fillers, also done on the same day, can address the deep lines and wrinkles, leaving the VI Peel to improve fine lines, tighten the skin and address texture and pigmentation.

Skin of color is generally defined as non-Caucasian patients who have a Fitzpatrick of III-VI.  The Fitzpatrick scale is based on hair color, eye color, skin tone, and your response to sun.  Ethnicities largely included in this category are African, Pacific Islander, Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, and East Indian.  There are anatomical differences between darker and lighter skin.  Thickness, oil levels and response and recovery to skin cell stripping differ between skin types.  Skin of color can tend to be thicker, oilier and more resistant to stripping.  Understanding the anatomy of the skin and your Fitzpatrick number is important to ensuring you are choosing the best treatment protocol.  For example, a Hispanic patient prone to oily skin may choose the Purify with Precision Plus Peel.  An African American patient prone to PIH (common sequela after acne) and PFB (inflammatory dermatosis) is best suited for the Precision Plus Peel.  An Asian patient prone to hyperpigmentation would also be a candidate for the Precision Plus Peel.

You are gorgeous without a product, so plan to arrive on appointment day with a clean face.  While your peel is being applied you should expect a pain level between 2-3.  After your peel is applied you will receive a post peel kit with instructions.  It is key to use the post peel protectant and follow the post peel instructions, which include avoiding the sun and wearing sun protection, adequately hydrating and moisturizing and using a gentle purifying cleanser.  You should expect the entire peel process to last up to 7 days with your heaviest peel days on day 4 and 5. Of course, the best thing you can do for your beautiful skin post-peel and beyond is to always wear sunscreen.

Yes, this happens and it is not always a bad thing.  VI Peels are medium depth, so not all skin will react in the same way.  If you find your skin doesn’t peel post treatment it could be you are great at regularly exfoliating your skin (pat yourself on the back), so you don’t have a lot of skin cells to remove. You will still get the benefits of the peel as it will still tighten, smooth and regenerate your skin.

Microneedling

Microneedling is an anti-aging, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, microneedling treatments help to lift and tighten the patient’s skin while improving the texture for younger looking skin. Using your body’s natural healing ability, a microneedling procedure involves hundreds of tiny skin pricks, inducing the body to produce collagen and elastin (the healing protein found in skin that gives structure to your skin), which in essence makes your skin fuller and plumper. This in effect erases the signs of aging such as sagging skin and wrinkles and also heals scars and other skin pigmentations.

How does a microneedling procedure work?

Your skin will be numbed for 30 minutes prior to the procedure to provide optimal comfort. The Provider will utilize a microneedling pen and serum (hyaluronic acid). The pen, which contains many needle points, is rolled across the face, which then pricks the skin hundreds of times. Furthermore, a hyaluronic acid serum is applied as well, which enhances collagen production. This process is repeated until the entire face is treated. After the microneedling procedure is complete, a healing serum is applied to the skin for optimum healing and effects.

Microneedling FAQS

The typical microneedling procedure lasts between 50-60 minutes, which includes the application of the numbing cream and the serums.

Without numbing cream this can be a very painful procedure. Our facility uses a strong compound numbing cream for 30 minutes prior to procedure which greatly reduces discomfort. Most patients report feeling nothing during the whole procedure.

The results of a microneedling procedure are amazing! Full results will be visible after about 2-4 weeks after the swelling goes down. You will continue to see fuller, plumper skin for up to 3 months after your treatment.

After a microneedling procedure, your face may appear reddish with slight swelling present. Slight bleeding may occur as well in small areas for the first 24-48 hours. Otherwise, your face will look younger and fuller almost immediately post 7 days.

This will vary for all patients, depending on their skin condition and the results they are seeking. Usually, a series of 3 treatment sessions for microneedling is needed, spaced apart by about a month or so. For advanced signs of aging, stretch marks, and acne scars, often more treatments are needed for optimal results.

Recovery time can vary depending on patient’s desired outcome. Your skin will be swollen for a few days afterwards, and may remain slightly pink for up to 48 hours after the procedure. Using hyaluronic acid and creams, many of which are specifically formulated to compliment a microneedling procedure will help reduce this inflammation. You can resume your normal activities immediately afterwards with little to no impact to your daily life. However, it is recommended to forego makeup and limit sun exposure for the first 5-7 days following treatment.
